About Awadh Vigyan Bharati

A science organization with Swadeshi spirit — national in vision, rooted in Awadh.

Vigyan Bharati

Our story

Vigyan Bharati (VIBHA) started as the Swadeshi Science Movement at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, led by eminent scientists under Prof. K. I. Vasu.

VIBHA is India's largest nationalistic, patriotic and humanistic science organisation, a community of scientists, professors, teachers, thinkers, students and researchers.

VIBHA aims at societal development, social harmony, ecological balance and environmental sanity with the aid of Science and Technology.

VIBHA has units in all the states of India, known as Prant units. We also have initiatives in foreign countries like the USA, UAE, Germany and others.

At a meeting in Nagpur on 20–21 October 1991, the work took national shape as Vigyan Bharati. Today it runs activities in many fields through autonomous institutions and associated organisations.

VIBHA describes itself as a dynamic science organization with a Swadeshi spirit — linking traditional and modern sciences on one hand, and natural and spiritual sciences on the other.

Foundation Day · 21 October

Celebrating the Spirit of Bharatiyatva in Science

Vigyan Bharati took its name on 21 October 1991. The Swadeshi Science Movement had emerged from a vision to blend science with Indian values, culture and self-reliance.

Vigyan Bharati stands as a national organisation fostering scientific temper, innovation and societal transformation through the synergy of modern science and Bharatiya knowledge systems.

On this day we first pay our tributes to all our Founder Members and express our gratitude to all who provided leadership and created this Swadeshi science attitude. We appreciate the contributions of all our life members, friends, families, the scientific fraternity, students, teachers and well-wishers. Without your support, help and encouragement we could not have achieved this recognition.

On this Foundation Day, we reaffirm our commitment —
  • to make Science a mission for Nation-Building,
  • and to carry forward the light of Swadeshi Science for a self-reliant Bharat.
