Fluid dynamics, turbulence and aerospace engineering

Story

Prof. Roddam Narasimha was an aerospace scientist who studied turbulence — from the bursting of boundary layers to how clouds grow. He directed the National Aerospace Laboratories, where he led India's first parallel computer for fluid dynamics, and contributed to the design of the Light Combat Aircraft.

Key contributions

  • Research on turbulent boundary layers, relaminarisation and cloud dynamics
  • Director, National Aerospace Laboratories; led development of parallel computing for fluid dynamics
  • Fellow of the Royal Society (1992); Padma Vibhushan (2013)
